This is the names database of Pirates and Traders 2.
If you would like to contribute to the list here, please do as follows:
- Get registered on the wiki. Send an e-mail to support at micabyte with the username and e-mail you would like to register as. You will need to wait for me to carry out the registration before you begin to edit.
- Add names that you think should fit. The criteria are fairly simple: as a rule, names should be historically accurate, so ideally, the name should be one that is attested as having been in use at the time (1600-1750) in the nation in question. My own research method is fairly simple; I usually search historical documents, lists of officials (governors, ship captains, etc), and ship lists for names. Names of high nobility (e.g., royal family and such) should only be used if they were actually active in the Caribbean at the time.
- I'd appreciate it if you link to your main sources in the appropriate sections. This is useful to save me the work of having to check up sources manually.
- Names should be quoted, with a comma following the quotes (see the existing names). This allows me to import them directly into the data files.

- The Categories are:
- Male Names: Male first names.
- Female Names: Female first names.
- Common Names: Common surnames. The type of surname that your sailors and officers might have.
- Noble Names: Surnames of the nobility. Primarily used for Governors, Nobles, and more august personages. Prefixes such as Van, de, Von, etc., should be included in the surname.
- Ship Names: Names of ships.
- Warship Names: Names of ships that would typically only be used for warships (E.g., Protector, Victory, etc).
