Status Interface
From Pirates and Traders
This is the pirate status view. The top of the screen has buttons that take you to each of the five views on this page. These allow you to access information about your ship, your pirate (avatar), the captain's log, your game stats, and the cargo in your ship's hold.
Use the BACK button on your phone to return to the previous view.
Pirate Status
At the top of the view is the name of your pirate, your (current) nationality, your flag, and the aptitudes of your pirate.
The skill button will allow you to purchase new skills if you have earned skill points. Note that some skills cost double (2 skill points instead of 1), so it can sometimes be worthwhile to save skill points rather than spending them all at once.
The player gains a skill point at a minimum once every year (unless you end in jail), up until the age of 35. Once you have passed 35, your character's abilities have peaked.
Items will show what items you have equipped. Currently, this feature does not work.
Beneath this you will find the skills and traits of your pirate (touch the skill or trait to pop up a dialog with more information). The skills should be sorted according to
In addition to this, you can see data about:
- Your reputation. Reputation is increased by defeating ships in battle.
- Relations with the different empires in the region. Your relations are worsened when you attack an empire or its friends.
Ship Status
At the top of the view is the name of your ship; below that you will find the name of the ship type, followed by a pictorial representation and the six stats of your ship. These are:
- Hull: This represents the strength of the hull of your ship. If the ships hull is reduced to 0, your ship will sink.
- Sails: This represents how effective the sails of this ship are. If this is reduced to 0, your ship will be immobilized and your crew will surrender. It also determines how fast your ship is capable of moving between areas. Moving from one area to another takes between 3 to 9 days; a ship with a sail rating of 1 will take 9 days while a ship with a sail rating of 25 will take 3 days.
- Rigging: This represents the maneuverability of your ship. The higher this rating, the easier your ship will find it to outmaneuver your opponents. If this rating is reduced to 0, your ship is immobilized and will surrender.
- Crew: This represents the number of healthy crew members.
- Cannon: This represents the number of cannon on your ship. Note that only half of your available cannons will fire in a broadside.
- Cargo: This is the cargo capacity of your ship.
Note that ships now have a size. A ships cargo capacity is its size, minus the space taken up by items on the ship. Each cannon takes up one cargo space, while many of the ship modifications also take up potential cargo space.
Beneath the stats you will find a list of the modifications (if any) that your ship has and details about your crew. This provides information about how much food your crew eats, and the current loyalty level of your crew. The loyalty rating ranges from 0 to 100. If it ever reaches 0, you will experience a mutiny. The loyalty of your men is reduced each time you recruit new crew members and if you have insufficient food on board for the crew. When out of food, the game will test your charisma each turn. If you fail the test, loyalty will fall by 1. It is increased whenever you capture a ship or by spending money on the crew while in port.
Crew Specialists are special crew members who give your ship bonuses during its operations. They can be encountered on almost any type of ship, though your are likely to find them more often in certain situations than others. Immigration ships very often carry crew members or immigrants with useful skills. Pirate ships may also occasionally carry crew members of all types.
- Master Pilot: A skilled helmsman. He steers the ship while sailing in difficult areas and in combat. He provides a bonus to skill checks when closing with and distancing opposing ships. The pilots on patrol ships are often pretty skillful, and master pilots are occasionally hired by smugglers.
- Master Carpenter: A skilled ship's carpenter. He keeps the ship afloat by making the necessary repairs. If the ship hull is damaged, he will gradually repair it. Skilled civilians of this type are often found on immigration ships.
- Master Sailmaker: A skilled sailmaker. He is responsible for mending the ship's sails and flags. If the sails of the ship are damaged, he will gradually repair them. Skilled civilians of this type are often found on immigration ships.
- Master Rigger: A skilled ropemaker, responsible for keeping the ship's rigging in a good state. If the rigging of the ship is damaged, he will gradually repair it. Skilled civilians of this type are often found on immigration ships.
- Master Gunner: A skilled gunner, expert at aiming a ship's guns after years of practice. He provides a bonus to your cannons rolls during combat. Such skilled sailors are mostly found on warships.
- Master Sergeant: A skilled drill master sergeant who, down on his luck, has decided to turn pirate. This stern task master makes your men fight better in battle and in boarding combats; your men fear him more than they fear the enemy. Such stern warriors are mostly found on troop ships.
- Master Cook: This skilled draughtsman of the culinary art is truly priceless. This magician of the gastronomic arts will see the food consumption of your crew halved. However, since he demands only the best in raw materials, the cost of purchasing one unit of food for you will be doubled. Artists such as these are only really appreciated by the most refined palates, so you are most likely to encounter them on ships such as treasure galleons, though individuals may also be passengers on immigration or trading ships.
You will also find a list of the Tasks that your ship is currently engaged in, the rumors that you have heard (and which are still active), as well as the diplomatic state of the region.
Cargo Manifest
The cargo manifests lists the goods that you are currently carrying on your ship. You can access the cargo manifest by pressing the Cargo button.
The information about the goods is organized as follows. The first number is the amount of goods in your hold. Next comes the name of the trade good. Below the name of the good, you will find information about the goods in your hold, such as the average price of the good in the game. To the far right are two buttons; the take button is always disabled in this view. The Dump button will allow you to to dump goods from your cargo hold. If you want to Dump all goods of a kind, press the appropriate button and hold it down (i.e., long press).
Captains Log
The Captains Log records some of the events that you have encountered during your adventures at sea.
If you press the MENU button, you will find an option to send a copy of the Captain's log to your own (or someone else's) e-mail address.
Pirate Statistics
This records some of the statistics of your game. Currently it only records the gold that you have accumulated, job statistics, and battle statistics. Eventually, this section will be expanded to include more information.
Retire
If you decide that your character is done, then you can retire him or her from the game. This will sell off any remaining goods you have, the ship, share out all of the treasure and calculate your final score.
