The story module in Pirates and Traders allow the player to engage in mini text adventure games. In the game, it is used for a lot of different purposes - from trade missions, mutinies on your ship, treasure hunts, etc.

When engaged in a story, you will be presented with a description of your current situation, and given one or more approaches to solving the situation. Sometimes the choice is very simple - to attempt an action or to ignore it. At other times, the choice may be more complex, with each action having advantages and disadvantages.

In addition, certain choices may cause you to test one of your skills. In such cases, the game will carry out a skill check against the relevant skill, and the result will depend on the result of the test. In most cases, it should be fairly obvious that a choice will result in a skill check. This will usually be the case with anything that would normally be considered difficult or dangerous. In most cases when you encounter a skill check, you will be able to attempt a problem using different skills. You should always try to go with the option in a skill in which you are strong above one in which you are weak.

Other choices may result in you getting engaged in combat.

Finally, some stories will require that you move to a specific location in the game or search a specific region before a certain date has passed. In such cases, the story view will usually close. A short description of your task (including the deadline and your goal) will be recorded in the Status Interface.

When bargaining, it is worthwhile to keep in mind that the higher the price you are trying to negotiate up from, the harder the skill check will be.
