Your Ship
From Pirates and Traders
The ships in the game are characterized by six stats.
Hull
This represents the strength of the hull of your ship. If the ships hull is reduced to 0, your ship will sink.
Sails
This represents how effective the sails of this ship are. If this is reduced to 0, your ship will be immobilized and your crew will surrender. It also determines how fast your ship is capable of moving between areas. Moving from one area to another takes between 3 to 9 days; a ship with a sail rating of 1 will take 9 days while a ship with the maximum sail rating of 25 will take 3 days.
Rigging
This represents the maneuverability of your ship. The higher this rating, the easier your ship will find it to outmaneuver your opponents. If this rating is reduced to 0, your ship is immobilized and will surrender.
Crew
This represents the number of healthy crew members.
Cannon
This represents the number of cannon on your ship. Note that only half of your available cannons will fire in a broadside.
Cargo
This is the cargo capacity of your ship. Note that ships now have a size. A ships cargo capacity is its size, minus the space taken up by items on the ship. Each cannon takes up one cargo space, while many of the ship modifications also take up potential cargo space.
Additional Ship Information
Beneath the picture of your ship in the status view, you will find a panel detailing the name of your ship and a color bar that reflects the current morale of the crew. Below this, you will find a list of the modifications (if any) that your ship has and details about your crew.
If you have any onboard, the game will present a list of your current Crew Specialists.
You will also find information about how much food your crew eats, and the current loyalty level of your crew.
Loyalty
The loyalty rating ranges from 0 to 10. If it ever reaches 0, you will experience a mutiny. The loyalty of your men is reduced each time you recruit new crew members and if you have insufficient food on board for the crew. When out of food, the game will test your charisma each turn. If you fail the test, loyalty will fall by 1. It is increased whenever you capture a ship or by spending money on the crew while in port.
